First, let’s understand the working principle and internal structure of disposable electronic cigarettes.
Internal Structure OverviewA typical disposable e-cigarette consists of five core components working in harmony.
1. Power Source: The BatteryThe built-in lithium battery provides the energy needed for vaporization.
2. E-Liquid Storage & DeliveryE-liquid is stored in a sealed tank and transported to the coil via capillary action.
3. Vaporization: The AtomizerThe heating coil converts electrical energy into heat to vaporize e-liquid.
4. Airflow & ActivationUser inhalation triggers airflow sensors, completing the circuit to start vaporization.
After understanding how electronic cigarettes work, let’s analyze and discuss the reasons for the burnt smell.
Causes of Burnt Taste
Dry Coil Burning: This is one of the most common causes. When the e-liquid in a disposable e-cigarette is running low, the coil may not receive sufficient e-liquid saturation, leading to dry burning and a burnt taste. Additionally, prolonged continuous puffing can cause the coil temperature to rise sharply, with e-liquid unable to supply adequately, resulting in dry burning. As shown in the image below, a dry-burned coil may appear black or brown, losing its original color.
Coil Quality Issues: Some disposable e-cigarette coils may have poor manufacturing processes, such as inferior coil materials or uneven winding. These problems can cause local overheating during use, leading to a burnt taste. For example, the coil shown in the image has an obviously uneven winding method, which may affect the atomization effect of e-liquid and result in a burnt taste.
Airflow Channel Blockage: If the airflow channel of a disposable e-cigarette is blocked by dust, impurities, or condensate, it will lead to poor air intake, and the coil cannot be sufficiently cooled, thus producing a burnt taste. As can be seen in the image below, there is obvious condensate accumulation in the airflow channel, which will hinder air circulation and affect the heat dissipation of the coil.
Improper Storage: Storing disposable e-cigarettes in high-temperature environments for a long time, such as in direct sunlight, may cause the e-liquid to thicken and its fluidity to deteriorate. The coil cannot receive sufficient e-liquid supply, leading to a burnt taste. In addition, low-temperature environments may also affect the performance of e-liquid, causing similar problems.
Methods to Avoid Burnt Taste
Reasonable Puffing:Avoid prolonged continuous puffing. After each puff, take an appropriate interval to allow the coil sufficient time to cool and be saturated with e-liquid. Generally, each puff should not exceed 3-5 seconds, and the interval between puffs can be maintained at about 5-10 seconds.
Choose High-Quality Products:When purchasing disposable e-cigarettes, choose regular brands and products with good reputations. High-quality products have better guarantees in terms of coil quality, manufacturing 工艺,and e-liquid quality, which can effectively reduce the probability of burnt taste.
Keep Airflow Channel Unobstructed:During use, please check for blockages in the airflow channels. If condensation accumulates, gently shake the device to remove it, but do not use excessive force to avoid damaging the device. Also, avoid placing the device in dusty environments to prevent dust from entering the airflow channels.
Proper Storage:Store disposable e-cigarettes in a cool and dry place, avoiding direct sunlight and high-temperature environments. The ideal storage temperature is generally between 15°C-25°C, and the humidity is between 40%-60%. You can place the e-cigarette in a special storage box to protect the device from external environmental influences.
